Founded in 2019, Hattimatim-Team is a Maryland-based bilingual, independent theatre company that develops original, thought-provoking scripts about complex social and geopolitical issues and presents minimalist, intimate performances to national and global audiences.
As an independent theatre company, Hattimatim-Team explores universal themes and transforms traditional storytelling to bridge cultural divides. The company creates highly complex yet accessible work that both entertains and asks lingering questions about the collective responsibility humans bear to the world and its inhabitants.
Hattimatim-Team primarily produces original new works written by new and emerging writers, in both English and Bengali. The company develops these plays from scratch, and the performers are also new or emerging artists, usually from the community.
Hattimatim-Team also travels across the USA to participate in various theatre festivals and has performed on both the West and East Coasts (including in several Off-Off-Broadway short play festivals). Their touring production, “Empty Night,” has established the company’s presence on the national fringe circuit, reflecting the company’s minimalist aesthetic and emotionally direct performance style.

We develop new, unpublished work by new and emerging playwrights. These plays range from short (10-15 minutes) to full-length (~2 hours). Abhisek’s short plays, “Fragrant Vengeance” and “Empty Night,” were first performed by Hattimatim-Team.
Provide opportunities to new and emerging artists from the community. Our play development process, workshops, and rehearsals are often rigorous and demanding, but also fun. Most of the actors who work with us had no formal training in acting, and some of them have never performed on stage.
Our creative teams combine elements from several genres of acoustic and visual arts to generate the final stage production. We act, we dance, we sing, and the whole is always more than the sum of its parts.
